Jerry Goldsmith savait tout écrire, traduire en musique
les concepts les plus complexes, les plus intraduisibles en image. Mais il lui arrivait aussi de rester coller à celle-ci en la magnifiant, en pulsant l'émotion jusqu'à son paroxysme.
Pour Rudy, ce fut le cas.
Simple, sincère et modeste tout en restant très dynamique,
la musique de ‘Rudy’ va droit au coeur. Délaissant quelque peu le synthétique, Goldsmith utilise l’orchestre et les choeurs pour
une émotion encore plus directe et accessible.
Plus que n’importe quel autre élément dans le film, c’est la musique qui apporte ici toute cette poésie et cette sensibilité
au long-métrage de David Anspaugh, renforçant avec justesse
la lutte d’un homme en quête de ses rêves.

With his classical and modern training, Jerry Goldsmith approaches drama with ease and originality, through styles as diverse as Jazz, symphony and ethnic atmospheres. But it is with a certain instrumental minimalism that he will achieve feats.
A sound, a combination of instruments, an effect, even silence, everything is exploitable for invention!
For the young Goldsmith, the orchestral mass is not always required. Without a solid idea, creation does not hold and aware of the musical revival in Hollywood, he has no choice but to innovate to get noticed.
Rhythm is his strong point, even signature, but it also gives a warm color to his themes. The young composer perfectly masters the image/sound synchronization which will allow him to easily put his ideas into place.
At 30, Jerry is a hard worker, even at night,ready to give everything to be the great composer of tomorrow, his sound field then becomes a veritable garden of experimentation.
On the borders of atonal at its beginnings, its stylistic directives are clear and oriented. Audacity and musical intelligence will make the difference, and of him, a precocious genius.

Despite two decades dedicated to quality sound creation, never before has film music reached such a level of musical splendor. Jerry Goldsmith will reconnect with this perfection of creation later with scores such as "The secret of Nimh, Brisby" by Don Bluth, Ridley Scott's "Legend" or even "Small Soldiers" for Joe Dante.

The Schaffner/Goldsmith collaboration is exemplary in
many respects but it is with Joe Dante that Jerry will give us the most crazy musical ideas In 2002 he reunited with the director for "Looney Tunes Back In Action", which marks the 8th and
last collaboration of the
two accomplices.
The latter which began in 1983 with Dante's segment for 'Twilight Zone: The Movie'. For 'Looney Tunes', the maestro makes a sensational return to the world of film music. Yet despite an astonishing musical form and his solicitous childish soul, Jerry fights body and soul against cancer. His inspiration unbridled makes him write flamboyant, delirious music with crazy
fanciful originality!

Some actors saw their acting intensified particularly by Jerry Goldsmith's music until they became fully aware of it.
This was the case of the actor Gentleman Sean Connery for whom the composer wrote some of his most beautiful film scores. On the set of “Medicine Man”, the actor informs Jerry that he wishes he had the same hair as him. Beautiful tribute!

With Jerry Goldsmith, it was constant ! Some of his scores deserved atten-
tive and special listening. Some stereophonic sound effects are even better appreciated with headphones !

Ecrite à la toute fin de la période des années 80, la partition de « Warlock » permit à Goldsmith de renouer avec le registre du fantastique et de l’horreur comme il l’avait déjà fait à plusieurs reprises dans les années 70 («The Omen»)

Il a lancé plusieurs campagnes Kickstarter pour financer l'enregistrement de ces partitions en vue d'une sortie numérique. Intrada présente désormais ces enregistrements sur disque compact, comprenant des notes détaillées de Yavar Moradi, spécialiste de Goldsmith

Leigh has done a “Goldsmith” job respecting the creations of Jerry Goldsmith for this cult series. Sound quality is an essential factor in appreciating this kind of performance.
