Pendant les années 60, Bill Conti apporte sa maitrise de l'arrangement musical et de la direction d'orchestre dans le milieu de la chansons Italienne. Dans un registre déjà bien occupé par de grandes pointures spécialistes de l'arrangement tels Ennio Morricone, Luis Bacalov, Piero Picioni et bien d'autres musiciens de talent, n'empécha pas Bill Conti de s'imposer comme un musicien en vogue, possédant sa propre science de l'instrumentation et de lyrisme. Ses accompagnements pour Ornella vanoni, Gloria Guida, Peppino Gagliardi et Guido Renzy seront particulièrement appréciés et remarqués mais Bill Conti ne compte pas faire de la chanson son cheval de bataille. Comme bien d'autres musiciens de cette époque, Conti gagne sa vie et compose déjà pour le cinéma italien entant que musicien fantome.
